Current Initiatives
Salvage Exchange.
Our extensive Salvage Operations turn waste into resource—diverting usable materials from landfills and giving them new life through design. Our work includes a dedicated SALTIE Truck for collecting construction site castoffs, an online marketplace for free reclaimed goods, and the SALTIE Box: a drop-off unit delivered directly to renovation projects to make salvaging easy, local, and impactful.
Outposts.
Outposts are physical hands-on demonstration hubs for learning and gathering—bringing our mission to life in the communities we serve. From mobile exhibits to future development properties with demonstration lodging, each Outpost showcases the SALTIE way in action—connecting people to place, craft, and climate resilience.
Partership Program.
SALTIE serves as a community hub—connecting mission-aligned organizations to amplify impact, share resources, and take action. Through our Partnership Program, we help orchestrate the collection and distribution of reclaimed materials, support sustainability-focused initiatives, and create a shared platform for education, outreach, and circular solutions.
Lending Libraries.
Our Free Local Lending Libraries offer a community-powered system for sharing tools, books, and materials related to sustainable living, design, and reuse. Managed by the SALTIE team, these libraries foster accessibility, reduce waste, spark action and empower neighbors to build, learn, and create together.
Education.
Our education initiatives tie hands-on learning to real-world impact. From school partnerships to traveling pop-up exhibits, workshops, and expert-led events, we offer dynamic opportunities to explore sustainable design, reclaimed materials and resilient architecture. Every initiative is designed to inspire curiosity, build skills, and empower all ages to shape a better-built world.
Open Space Conservation.
At SALTIE, we believe open space should stay that way! From butterfly gardens to bee-friendly blooms and wildlife corridors, we weave conservation into all of our projects and curriculum. Because when nature thrives, so do our communities—and good design should always make room for both.
Oyster Shell Recycling.
Our Oyster Shell Recycling Initiative reduces landfill waste—one shell at a time. By collecting discarded oyster shells from local partners, we re-purpose these creatively or return them to the sea to build new reef structures. These living shorelines create critical habitat for fish and marine life. It's a circular solution that turns last night’s dinner into tomorrow’s ecosystem.
Workforce Housing.
Our Workforce Housing initiative showcases freestanding small homes that are affordable, sustainable, and rooted in nature. Designed to support local workers and seasonal staff, these dwellings reflect SALTIE’s commitment to circular living, resilient design, and community-based solutions.
Art Exhibits.
Our Art Exhibits celebrate the creative reuse of reclaimed materials—transforming salvage into story, waste into wonder. Each piece offers more than beauty: it creates dialogue, honors place, and gives back to the community through education, inspiration, and shared experience.
